The Positive Diary #2 – Studying the right program

20th September 2018 – Sometimes the reason to be grateful nocks on your nose immediately in the morning, like yesterday. There are however days like today, when nothing seems to make any sense, even though the reason to be thankful is staring at you the whole day.

I didn’t wake up with the greatest mood today and, as the day continued, it wasn’t getting any better. I needed a new pair of jeans and therefore there wasn’t any chance to avoid a shopping mall as we went to get them. I don’t know why but from a certain moment I don’t feel quite well on such places. Everything seems so fake and dishonest there, people, the shops, the goods, even myself! To cut a long story shorter, I was getting more and more irritated. In that moment, it didn’t matter to me that it was wonderful sunny and late summer weather outside or that we took it back home through my favorite way..

It was late in the evening, after I started texting with one of my friends about school which is about to start in a week and about a registration of our classes, when I realized I’m thriving with life and I truly cannot wait the beginning of the semester. On a scale from zero to one hundred, I was excited on one hundred and fifty!

That means I succeeded today as well as yesterday, even though it took me almost the whole day to find out. Today I am thankful for being able to study the one study program that feels like it was created right for me. I am so much grateful that I found out two years back that the social and cultural ecology as a program exists and – what was even more exciting – I was able to study it on my beloved alma mater. I am also very proud of myself (which isn’t always very easy) of having finished the first year without a single flaw and finding eventually a glimpse of purpose in my life.

With that said, I can finally go to bed and hope this little confession will inspire you as well. Inspire you to what? Not being so harsh to yourself and always remembering that no matter how meaningless life can sometimes feel, at the end of the day or the day after that, you will always see a glimpse of hope.

Take care!

The Positive Diary #1 – Affordable healthy vegan food

19th September 2018 – As a result of fighting my own demons, two months back I started to write something I call the positive diary. In the name of practicing gratitude and also because I finally purchased the super cute and super expensive note book I was spying on for a while, I decided I will put in there only kind and loving words, flashes of happiness I experience on a daily basis but in the darkest times I tend to forget about them. The plan is simple: Once the demons come out again, I can grab these notes and try to remember that there is plenty of good and life-worthy things in my everyday life.

And, as I was thinking about it more deeply, with seeing the rise of a movement advocating for mental health and for not being ashamed of mental health condition on the Instagram (no matter if the talks are about OCD – try @unfollowanxiety of my precious friend Michelle, who has come already a long way and fought already a long fight, or about fighting depressions – you can try the very honest @fightingdepressionswithphoto profile) I thought it would be nice to share this idea on my blog. Even though I am well aware that only a positive mindset cannot fight such a terrible demon we encounter so often, I believe it can still have a big impact.

Therefore, I am here today with the very first note of my online positive diaries.

Today, I wanted to talk about being a vegan in 21stcentury.

I was thinking about it during my today’s breakfast. Firstly, I was mad for some reason. I didn’t really feel to eat the healthy breakfast I prepared, the coffee wasn’t done yet and I have already managed to bath both of our dogs therefore I was getting very hungry and very impolite. But when I tried my breakfast – it was sliced banana and plums with oat flakes and soya yogurt, just for the record – I realized how grateful I should be that I can enjoy this breakfast even though I avoid eating dairy products.

Nowadays we have all we want and all we need within arm’s reach, so we might take it for granted. But I remember quite clearly that when my brother had this terrifying allergy on milk and eggs as a toddler there weren’t as many options for him to eat as there are today. As a student of social and cultural ecology, I realize how gigantic price we as the world pay for this abundance and despite that, or maybe just because of that, we should be thankful for being able to buy almond milk, soya yogurt, vegan cheese but also plenty of unprocessed food from which we can make our homemade treats.

So today I am very grateful for being able to afford healthy, nutritious and compassionate food every day, without harming animals and while contributing to the global climate change slightly less.

What are you grateful for today? 🙂 Let me know in the comment section or on my Instagram or Facebook Page.

Have an amazing rest of your day!

Hidden Cities of Bohemia: Chrudim

0BB959F8-EAA1-4466-9398-8A0DEF1A21FBThose who travel to Czech Republic are usually mostly attracted by places like the Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, the city of Český Krumlov or maybe the Karlštejn Castle. If you have more than just a few days to stay when visiting Czech Republic, there are many other places you should give a try. Today I want to talk about lovely city called Chrudim about an hour and a half away from Prague.

The city of Chrudim is located in the Eastern Bohemia, just a few kilometers away from the county town Pardubice. You can get there by a car using the highway which connects Prague and Hradec Králové, another county town of the region, or you can certainly take a train from the Prague’s Main Station which sounds much more adventurous and romantic. The city offers plenty of restaurants and also a shop with healthy food in case you’d forget your tofu spreads at home as I did when we visited the city.

The Heart of the City

Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie, Resselovo náměstíYou can start your excursion of the city on the main square called Resselovo náměstí which was named after the inventor of a screw propeller and Austrian forester Josef Ressel, who was actually born in Chrudim in 1793. The main eye-catcher of the square is Chrudim’s Church of Assumption built in neo gothic style and you won’t probably miss a baroque plague column standing opposite the church, right in the middle of the square.

There is plenty to see if you are interested in architecture and history. But there is no need to worry even when you are not. Actually, there is much more to see if you are interested in a city nature, parks and cooperation between people and the nature in the city.

The Green Centre

Náhon, ChrudimIn fact, Chrudim is one of the cities which were able to use money from grants and subsidies to became more pleasant place to live in. Since 2001, Chrudim is involved in the WHO European Healthy Cities Network and thanks to that the city was able to rejuvenate its old water raceway.

The system is powered by water from Chrudimka river and was built probably during the 15thcentury. The system used to serve as an energy and water source for people living in the city. During the 20thcentury however many of the raceways were backfilled with dirt or changed into dead ends. The restoration started on the beginning of this millennium and since that the raceway and its surroundings has been transformed into lovely chilly place where you can take a rest, a walk or a run, not to mention your kids will love it here.

Rybí přechod, náhon, ChrudimThe walk along the revitalized water raceway will take you towards an unbelievably and unexpectedly romantic adventure and you might find yourself wondering whether you are still in the Czech Republic. It will take you alongside the medieval city walls which are now occupied by tiny charming gardens and you can see from below some of the other historic sights of the city.

Metamorphosis and More

One of the places where you can finish your trip through Chrudim is the Museum of Baroque Sculptures, which is located in the former church of saint Joseph. The church was built for the order of Capuchins but monks had to abandon the place in 1948. The building was restored by the city to serve as a place of meetings for local citizens, as the center of cultural life and also as a place where special venues can take place, for example weddings.

Chrudim, náhon, náměstí U VodárnyOur trip ended just right there but Chrudim can offer even more. Among all other places where you can do various sport activities the city’s recreational forests with a rope center to entertain young climbers and their parents as well was the one that caught my attention. And while being there you can also visit lookout tower called Bára, which was shortly after the opening destroyed by a tornado but the city managed to take care of it and now you can just relax there and enjoy the view over the region.

So, what do you think? Will you give Chrudim a try? Or have you already been there? Let me know in the comment section!

Take care and see you next time!

The Garbage Outbreak

Next time you will take a beautiful spring walk, no matter if you’re heading towards your favorite forest or you’re walking along the path between those romantic fields of any kind of crop, you may try to take a plastic bag for garbage and a pair of gloves. I bet you will find them useful.

The Journey Begins

With so many things that happened during the last few months, with so many feelings that have been discovered and lived I couldn’t not notice how different I have become. We live in a world where everything connects to everything and that means now I am able to say that every decision I took in the past ten years lead to the person I am today. Even though it wasn’t that clear when I was searching my way, feeling completely lost, despite everything I would have done differently now, when I know, I think I am on the right path.

It might seem to you that the headline of the article doesn’t quite match the content. But it does, perfectly. I cannot imagine more suitable moment to finally start fulfilling my dreams than this particular moment. Not in a month, not in a week, not even tomorrow, but now. That is the reason I am starting this lovely light-hearted blog about traveling, yoga and other joys of life.

I believe you will fall in love with this corner of the Internet as much as I did.

Happy readings!
